"The Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland. To accommodate this growth, the Gold Coast rail line is being extended by 4km from Robina to Varsity Lakes.

This rail extension to Varsity Lakes and construction of a transit interchange is the first step in the progressive extension of the Gold Coast line to Coolangatta Airport.

This project is part of the Government’s South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan 2006-2026. The Plan is a $66 billion 20 year program to provide the necessary infrastructure to manage growth and improve access to services and facilities throughout South East Queensland - the fastest growing urban region in Australia.

At around $6.6 billion, the SEQIPRAIL Program is the State Government’s biggest investment in the future of rail in South East Queensland."
